About Abby

What is compelling about your domain?

In aggregate, application software forms the operating system for modern businesses and modern lives. As digital transformation progresses across every industry, every company adopts enabling technology, and eventually software comes to influence every business outcome and worker experience.

There is huge potential for application software to drive efficiency, support business success, and bring delight to – or at least remove frustration from – daily activities. I’m lucky to play a supporting role in ensuring that such transformative tools get to be created.

What do you look for when you partner with a founder?

Vision, drive, and thoughtfulness. I’m inspired by founders with ambitious ideas and relentless commitment to execute, paired with the bigger-picture awareness required to adapt to new information and changing circumstances. Perhaps most importantly, I look for founders who surround themselves with people who display these same qualities.

What are your interests and passions outside of BCV?

I try to make time for some form of movement every day, whether that is yoga, reformer Pilates, running or a long walk on the West Side Highway. When I’m outside of the city, I love to hike, ski, and generally spend time outdoors. I’m also an avid and eclectic reader – everything from classics to new journalism to historical memoirs.

What is a self-care ritual you practice?

Online shopping.

What do you love about working for Bain Capital Ventures?

The daily conversations and learning! I’m surrounded by deeply curious, dedicated and smart people with diverse perspectives and experiences, who constantly challenge, support and educate me. Regardless of the topic I’m exploring or company I’m working with, someone on the BCV team – or, within the broader Bain Capital network – will have invested, operated or built in the space, and their insights enhance and test my own thinking.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Have fun with it.
