About Abby

What is compelling about your domain?

Thinking back to when I started college, I remember being drawn to studying economics & finance because of their criticality to daily life.  I felt that the financial system was a crucial, fundamental structure that impacted almost every facet of my own life and the lives of those around me.  Understanding it on my own would provide a sense of independence and opportunity.

My excitement about software today arises from a similar sense of outsized significance. Software underlies almost everything, and has huge capacity to disrupt industries, change processes, and improve upon pain points. It is invigorating to invest in the space because I am continuously learning about new opportunities for disruption or improvement, and am able to support the visionary founders catalyzing these meaningful changes.

What do you love about working for Bain Capital Ventures?

Getting to spend every day with incredibly smart, talented people who approach conversations with such a diversity of perspectives and experiences.  I’m constantly learning, being challenged, and getting curious about new ideas & topics.

What are your interests and passions outside of BCV?

I try to make time for some form of movement every day, whether that is yoga, reformer Pilates, or a long walk on the West Side Highway.  When I’m outside of the city, I love to hike, ski, and generally spend time outdoors.  I’m also an avid & eclectic reader – everything from classics to new journalism to books on payment systems.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Be present and pay attention to what brings you energy.

What is a self-care ritual you practice?

Keeping my phone on “do not disturb” the first 30 minutes of each day!  Also, sporadic entries in my gratitude journal.

What do you look for when you partner with a founder?

Excitement, drive, empathy, thoughtfulness.
