About Zeeza

What is the first company you invested in?

I’ve been fortunate to work with many great founders and companies, but the first I invested in is Mathison, an end-to-end Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) hiring and retention platform. We met Co-Founders, Dave Walsh and Arthur Woods, in early 2020. In that time, and since, employers have become increasingly focused on DEI initiatives but most don’t know where to start or how to measure success. As experienced leaders in HR, recruiting and diverse community building, Dave and Arthur deeply understood the need; they stood out as founders committed to building world-class software to enable all companies to deploy an effective DEI strategy. Conversations with early customers further proved that there was unparalleled demand for software to support these efforts and that Mathison was fundamentally changing the cycle.

Do you have an investment ethos? Is there a portfolio company investment that exemplifies that ethos?

At the earliest stages, we are investing in visions for what the future could look like, and the people and stories behind them. At the same time, I am focused on identifying opportunities that have the potential to fundamentally transform major industries – be it solving an entirely unmet need or restructuring an antiquated process or workflow.

What do you love about working for Bain Capital Ventures?

I’m continuously impressed by my talented colleagues at BCV. I feel so lucky to work with, and learn from, such a curious and passionate team that is committed to creating lasting impact. The diversity of expertise within the team allows us to challenge ourselves to think differently, and bigger about the future.

What are your interests and passions outside of BCV?

I love to cook. At a young age, I would spend hours in the kitchen making “concoctions” for my family and friends – years later, they are thankfully still letting me test and share my new recipes. I love the creativity in cooking, and it gives me so much joy to share a good meal with family and friends.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Embrace change.

What is a self-care ritual you practice?

Daily walks! They are the best way to start my day and clear my mind – they are incredibly restorative.

Why We Invested In Archive: Enabling Brands To Reclaim Their Resale Market

by Sarah Smith and Zeeza Cole, Bain Capital Ventures We grew up in thrifty families that saw the value of wearing secondhand clothes that spanned generations, so we understood the “vintage cool” factor and sustainability of re-use from an early age. When we heard Emily Gittins and Ryan Rowe’s vision for Archive to power every brand’s secondhand marketplace, the nostalgia and inherent value resonated…
