Charting the Future of Revenue Leadership: Introducing the BCV CRO Advisory Board

The go-to-market landscape is evolving in real time. AI is transforming how teams operate, budgets are under pressure, and revenue leaders are being asked to do more with less. Today’s CROs don’t just drive the number - they build and lead cross-functional teams, design scalable sales processes, partner closely with product and finance teams, and are increasingly responsible for defining the long-term trajectory of the business. More often than not, they do so with smaller headcount than they’ve had historically as they’re asked to ‘do more with less’ using generative AI.

At Bain Capital Ventures, we’ve spent over 20 years investing in the infrastructure and applications that empower GTM leaders to succeed. From outbound and forecasting (e.g., Clari, Apollo, Actively) to personalization (e.g., Attentive, 6sense) and enablement through post-sales engagement and support (e.g. Decagon, Pylon, Gainsight), our portfolio reflects a belief that revenue doesn’t stop at the point of sale, it’s built across the entire customer lifecycle.

As the sales stack continues to evolve, from people-led to product-led to AI-assisted, we believe the next chapter of GTM innovation will be defined by those closest to the customer: the CROs themselves. And as the GTM stack is being rewritten, we’re doubling down on our commitment to this space, not just by backing the next generation of tools, but by learning directly from the leaders building and scaling the revenue engines of tomorrow.

That’s why we’ve formed the BCV CRO Advisory Board: a group of 20+ revenue leaders across industries, stages (a mix of public and private), and geographies, representing some of today’s most iconic companies building the playbooks for tomorrow. Collectively, they’ve overseen revenue organizations of all sizes, with most having scaled teams with more than $200M ARR. We selected organizations at the forefront of building for scale in an age of AI, ensuring a cross-section of perspectives to deepen our collective understanding of how revenue functions are evolving amid rapid technological transformation.

What unites them is a commitment to redefining the CRO function in a world where growth, efficiency, and innovation must coexist. Their diversity of industries, backgrounds, and approaches ensures rich debate and varied perspectives—insights that founders, fellow members and our BCV team can learn from. In our conversations with members, a few priorities consistently surfaced, from building and scaling high-performing teams, to driving efficient growth and sharpening forecasting discipline, to navigating the evolving role of the CRO in an era increasingly shaped by AI and cross-functional alignment. These shared focus areas reflect not only what keeps today’s CROs up at night, but also where they see the greatest opportunities to shape the future of revenue leadership.

Our CRO group is shaped by the breadth and depth of our platform. BCV invests from seed to late growth, while drawing on the perspective of the broader Bain Capital ecosystem—a 40-year-old asset manager with more than 1,000 portfolio companies that span a breadth of industries. That means our CRO advisors gain a rare perspective: shaping the playbooks of early-stage companies while also learning from the scaled realities of large, PE-backed businesses. It’s this combination of innovation and operating depth that ensures conversations go beyond theory to what truly works at scale.

Throughout the year, we’ll gather in person and virtually to exchange insights, dig into topics like AI-first GTM strategy and the future of the sales organization, and connect members with founders, peers, and early-stage companies building in this space. We’ll also leverage the board to deepen our own research and sharpen our investment theses. Through these conversations, we aim to amplify the voices of today’s CROs as we invest in the future of the GTM stack.
