Charting a New Era: How Charta Health is Transforming Healthcare Workflows

Justin Liu, Scott Morris and the Charta Health team are applying AI to solve healthcare's charting and audit problem.
AI has transformed the way we think about work and expands our capacity to accomplish more. Whether it’s managing thousands of customer support tickets, combing through vast legal databases or designing customized learning modules for students, AI is breaking barriers across industries and achieves tasks that were once out of reach.
These same constraints are amplified in healthcare, with increased administrative burden on providers, ever-changing payer requirements and rising labor costs. For context, a study shared by the American Hospital Association cites admin costs as more than 40 percent of total hospital costs incurred in delivering care to patients.
Charting a Better Path
Today, we are thrilled to announce our partnership with a company poised to transform that dynamic: Charta Health. BCV is leading its seed round alongside participation from our friends at South Park Commons, SpringRock Ventures, Refract Ventures and SV Angel.
Charta is the leading compliance automation platform for provider groups. Before Charta, 1% of provider charts were reviewed post-billing by audit teams. The resulting feedback, which focused on provider education to improve coding practices and reduce future errors, was not consistently applied.
Now, Charta autonomously reviews 100% of charts (no pun intended!) in real-time, pre-billing, to improve revenue integrity, improve patient care and reduce audit and compliance costs.
Meet the Founder: Justin Liu is a Technical CEO with Product Vision & GTM Chops

Co-Founders Applying Technical Expertise to Product Building
As with many of our investments, the founders drew us into the opportunity. Their partnership dates back to 2020, when Scott teamed up with Justin as engineering and product counterparts at Rockset (acquired by OpenAI). In addition to being colleagues-turned-co-founders, Justin and Scott each dedicated a year to securing the Certified Professional Coder credential, which enables them to build for medical use cases with regulatory cover and garner healthcare field endorsement.
Upon first meeting Justin and Scott, we were immediately impressed by their scrappy GTM execution and sharp technical approach to product building. They cold outbounded hundreds of practices and secured several 6-figure contracts within weeks.
Today, Charta works with customers like Eventus WholeHealth and KidsCare Home Health — most thanks, in large part, to hot deals borne from cold outreach.
Since coming out of stealth, customers consistently rave about their pace of product development. One large primary care group told us, “During our first meeting, we shared our struggle with chart review and audit. By the second meeting, Justin and Scott had already become certified medical coders and built a prototype — something I didn’t know was possible in 6 days.”
Audit and compliance is just the tip of the iceberg; Charta can redefine how charting is done, enable data-driven clinical decisions and become a trust layer between healthcare counterparties. AI will shape the future of healthcare across tech stacks, billing cycles and administrative operations. We’re thrilled to partner with Charta who is leading the change.
